Yes, there were rumours about the next Android OS being named after a sweet food that starts with Q. We expected to see something like Quiche, Quesadilla, Quinoa and so on. Instead, Google decided to change the dynamics by using a numeric naming system. Speaking about this innovation in a blog post, the Search Engine giant explains that not all communities across the world can relate with the dessert names used in previous versions. And clearly, multiple regions don’t even recognise them at all. It’s quite easy to call this tenth version Android 10 seeing the growth rate of Android OS all over the world. So, also is any other numeric version that comes after.

Alongside the change of name, the Android branding also experiences a series of changes. To start with, the logo shows a close-up Android mascot with more infusion of green colouration. The robot is also shifted towards the right of the name “Android”. Importantly, this Android 10 might still go by the moniker Android Q. But the follow-up versions won’t have that luxury. We’ll see Android 11, Android 12 and upwards in the coming years. Android 10 is expected to be officially launched and released towards the early days of September.
