When entering the Android segment, Epic Games as the Fortnite developer chooses an independent path for distribution. They did not enter the download of this game via the Google Play Store. Epic Games releases its own APK files legally with the guarantee of free malware or viruses. According to TechCrunch, the 15 million downloads on Android is greater than on the iOS platform that only ‘penetrated’ 11 million installations in the first month of release with the first two weeks still in the form of ‘closed beta’ or very limited. Three months after the release, Fortnite on the iOS platform reached 100 million downloads based on data from the Apptopia research firm.
By choosing an independent path, automatically the benefits obtained by Fortnite are far greater than riding on the Google Play Store which has to cut revenue by 30 percent. Epic Games also promised to try to patch any potential malware that is vulnerable to attack Android platforms. “So far, Epic has suppressed 47 illegal websites ‘Fortnite for Android’,” wrote Epic Games on its blog. They also said that they continued to monitor illegal links with problems and tried to limit their access by cooperating with anti-fraud partners. So far, Epic Games still limits Fortnite on Android to just a few smartphones. Most come from devices of the last two years which means that the average device is run with the Android Oreo operating system. Recently, Epic Games added three more Android smartphone vendors that can be used to play Fortnite. All three are Sony Xperia, HTC, and Motorola.
