It appears that the most famous modded version of the popular messaging app WhatsApp has officially discontinued the development. According to a tweet by Omar (from Syria – Daraa) who happens to be the developer of this popular modded version of WhatsApp via his Twitter page, broke out this news to the public. See tweet below;
GBWhatsApp Shuts Down We are really sorry to announce that we have completely stopped the development of GBWhatsApp. It was a great time with all you people. — Omar ‘أتنفس هواك’ (@atnfas_hoak) August 1, 2019 For those who don’t know about this app… GBWhatsApp is a WhatsApp MOD and can be used to add new functions to the famous instant messaging and chat application. That means that it’s a modified version of the original app but it has not been created by the original developers and neither has it received authorization to use its source code. Earlier in March this year, the messaging service, WhatsApp, reminds all users not to use applications that have been modified by third parties and for those who use their accounts to be temporarily blocked. The users of GB WhatsApp, WhatsApp Plus and other modded versions of the messaging app have repeatedly been blocked.
Although I’ve never used this modded version of this application despite its popularity across the globe, anyone who is serious about privacy and data protection should desist from installing this app. I think its time is overdue coupled with the fact that the original developers of this app never authorised it. “WhatsApp does not support this third-party application because we cannot validate its security practices,” as quoted by WhatsApp.
The way forward, Install official WhatsApp
For users who are now using the unofficial WhatsApp application, before switching to the official application it is recommended to back up chat history so that important chat history is not lost.
