Quoting The Verge, Wednesday (11/17/2021), Instagram will allow content creators who are eligible on social media to apply for the new feature. Once accepted, viewers or followers will be able to purchase “Badges” during the creator’s Livestream to support them financially. Badges will be available in three different levels, costing $0.99 (approx. ₦400), US$1.99 (approx. ₦820), or US$4.99 (approx. ₦2,000). This level variety will appear as one, two, or three hearts next to the commenter’s name during the stream. Badges will be shown more clearly to creators, and their Instagram name will appear on a list that creators can view for up to 90 days. Instagram also said there won’t be any revenue share on earnings made by creators until 2023. However, not every Instagram user can get their viewers or followers to start buying Badges, even though the new feature has been rolled out in the United States. To be eligible for Instagram Live monetisation, creators must be based in an eligible country, be 18 years old, have a creator or business account on the platform, and have at least 10,000 followers. Not only that, but they must also comply with various Instagram policies and guidelines including the Partner Monetization policy, Content Monetization Policy, and Community Guidelines.
