The three newer chipsets are Snapdragon 720G, Snapdragon 662, and Snapdragon 460. “The expansion of our 4G portfolio enables our partners to offer sophisticated solutions that meet global demand and provide exceptional gaming experiences in various layers and price segments,” Kedar Kondap, Deputy Director of Product Management Qualcomm Technologies Inc., said in a press release.
Snapdragon 720G
This chipset has Snapdragon Elite Gaming features in the premium class so it supports smooth HDR games, dynamic colour and contrast games, to synchronized sound with Qualcomm aptX Adaptive. Snapdragon 720G supports 4K video recording and photography up to 192MP. The fifth-generation Qualcomm AI Engine artificial intelligence (AI) feature is equipped with an enhanced Hexagon Tensor Accelerator that supports AI for gaming, photography and virtual assistants. Snapdragon 720G uses 8-nanometer technology which is claimed to improve performance and save power.
Snapdragon 662
This chipset is equipped with the latest Qualcomm Spectra 340T which supports three camera configurations and a more powerful ISP for HEIF format photos. Snapdragon 662 uses a third-generation AI Engine with Hexagon Vector Extension that can be used for use of artificial intelligence such as night photography, face and voice authentication.
Snapdragon 460
Snapdragon 460 is claimed to increase CPU performance by up to 70 percent and GPU by up to 60 percent compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 450. This new chipset also uses a third-generation AI Engine that can be used to support photography and virtual assistants. This chipset has also been equipped with Qualcomm Spectra 340 ISP for three camera configurations. Devices with the Snapdragon 720G chipset are planned to be commercially available in the first quarter of this year. While handsets with Snapdragon 662 and Snapdragon 460 are expected to launch by the end of 2020.
