The Unicode Consortium also recently released a list of the 10 most used emojis in 2021, which didn’t change much when compared to the list released by the Unicode Consortium in 2019. From the list, it is stated that the ‘smiling while crying’ emoji is still the most used emoji this year, followed by the heart emoji. There has been a slight change wherein the third position is now occupied by the laughing to crying emoji which in 2019 was in the fourth position, then the heart-shaped eye emoji has decreased to the ninth position. It was also mentioned that the use of the birthday cake emoji had increased quite significantly, in 2019 it was ranked 113th, whereas this year it was ranked 25th. One of the reasons for this significant increase was the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic, which made many people unable to celebrate birthdays directly, so many could only say it from social media and one of them was using the birthday cake emoji.
