Companies engaged in the mapping of QuantUrban include information in nine cities in Guangdong Province. While the application made by the developer WeChat, YiKuang, covers the City of Shenzhen and Guangzhou in the province. “We want to display this information on a map so that users can see the distribution of epidemic points more intuitively and alert people to adequate protection,” said Yuan Xiaohui, CEO of QuantUrban, as reported by Reuters. Both applications display which locations have positive corona cases. QuantUrban has volunteers to update information about corona based on the latest data from the Chinese Government. Likewise, with YiKuang, they also have volunteers to update information on the map. One student named Steven stated that such an application helped him to find out locations that already had corona cases. “If I know someone is sick, I can take steps to be more careful,” he said. The state-owned CCTV media and People’s Daily also each support the use of a similar application to find out whether the bus, train or aeroplane that was boarded was ever filled by corona patients.
